A bus transporting the Salem High School football team and staff overturned late Friday night in Rockdale County, Georgia, resulting in 25 injuries, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of Georgia State Route 138 and Interstate 20. The bus, carrying 27 passengers, was returning from an away game when the driver reportedly lost control while attempting a right turn. The vehicle slid across lanes before overturning on the side of the roadway.

Of the 25 individuals transported to hospitals, 22 were students and three were adults. One student was airlifted from the scene. As of Saturday, only one student remained hospitalized, according to Rockdale County Public Schools. The bus driver and the driver of a Kia Soul, which was struck by the bus, were among those injured.

Rockdale County Public Schools Superintendent Stephanie Johnson expressed gratitude that there were no fatalities. "We are deeply grateful that there were no fatalities and that many have been treated and released," Johnson stated. "As our Salem family heals, we will continue to surround them with care and we ask our community to keep everyone involved in your thoughts throughout the recovery."

Investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the accident. The Youth Peace and Justice Foundation has offered support and mental health resources to those affected.
