Scholes Counters Rooney on Man City Title, 'Greedy' for Medal

Paul Scholes has voiced his disagreement with former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney regarding the potential reallocation of the 2012 Premier League title. Rooney had stated he would not feel comfortable accepting the trophy if Manchester City were stripped of it due to financial breaches.

Scholes, in a response shared on Instagram, expressed a contrasting view, saying, "Keep hearing ex-team-mates saying they want trophies taking off them but they don't want their medals... f*** that I'm a greedy b*****d I want my medal." Scholes, who won five Premier League titles with Rooney, has eleven winners' medals in his personal collection.

Rooney, speaking on his YouTube show 'Stick to United,' explained his position, stating, "I don't think we deserve it, we didn't do enough that season to win the league. I think we were six or seven points clear with four or five games to go and we threw it away." He added that if Manchester City's players had no knowledge of any wrongdoing, he would be devastated for them and would not want to accept a medal he felt United did not truly earn that season.

Manchester City were found guilty of the majority of 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League concerning financial rules. The club has since confirmed it has lodged an appeal against the verdict. In their statement, City asserted, "The club's firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe." The club maintains its innocence and states irrefutable evidence exists to support its positions.

New Premier League regulations stipulate that an appeal hearing must occur within 12 weeks of its lodging, with a decision to follow within 30 days of the hearing's conclusion. The hearing itself is limited to five days.

Manchester City secured the 2011-12 Premier League title on goal difference, famously clinched by Sergio Aguero's last-minute winner against QPR.
