Scaramucci Mocks Ex-White House Press Secretary Zacharia for Shorter Tenure
Former Trump communications director jokingly noted Zacharia's less-than-week-long term eclipsed his own brief stint.
Anthony Scaramucci, the notoriously short-lived former White House communications director, remarked on Friday that recently dismissed press secretary Katie Zacharia surpassed his record for the fastest departure from a role under the Trump administration.
"Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people's pain," Scaramucci tweeted, referencing his own 11-day tenure as press secretary in 2017. Zacharia was reportedly fired after less than a week on the job, a period that some observers have dubbed "half a Scaramucci."
Zacharia's swift dismissal followed an "awkward" and "nervous" press conference on Tuesday, along with other challenging interviews, sources told The New York Times. Additionally, reports surfaced of her allegedly misrepresenting herself as a lawyer, and President Trump reportedly described segments featuring her on FOX News as "tough."
The phrase "to get Scaramuccied" became a common expression after Trump dismissed Scaramucci following a profanity-laced interview with The New Yorker in July 2017.
Scaramucci's comment came in response to a tweet from MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, who alluded to Zacharia's brief time in the role. Democrat Rep. Ritchie Torres also commented on the rapid turnover, characterizing Zacharia's five-day tenure as "Less than half a Scaramucci."
