SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland, Scotland, is preparing for a potential rocket test flight in August, announcing a five-week window during which attempts could be made.
Temporary traffic orders are planned for north Unst, the northernmost island of the Shetland archipelago, to accommodate potential visitors interested in observing the launch. Local residents have been offered the opportunity to apply for vehicle passes and gain access to viewing areas for test flights and launches.
Scott Hammond, chief executive of SaxaVord Spaceport, stated that the five-week window does not imply continuous restrictions. "Restrictions will only be introduced if a launch attempt is scheduled, and we'll provide at least 24 hours' notice," Hammond explained. He emphasized the spaceport's commitment to balancing operational and safety requirements with being a "good neighbour" and keeping any disruption to a minimum.
