Savannah Guthrie announced Thursday that she will be taking a hiatus from the "Today" show for several weeks to film a new game show. Guthrie will be hosting a "Wordle"-themed game show, which is based on the New York Times' popular puzzle.
"I'm headed over to shoot ‘Wordle’ over the next few weeks," Guthrie told her co-hosts on the NBC morning news program. "We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it."
Page Six previously reported in May that Guthrie, 54, was selected to host the game show, which is being executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon. Fallon had stated that they were searching for the perfect host who "looks like they play Wordle, someone who knows how to run a show." He added that Guthrie was "amazing" during the pilot. The "Wordle" game show is expected to premiere in 2027.
This upcoming absence follows a brief hiatus last week, during which Guthrie spent time with her family amid the ongoing investigation into her mother Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. Nancy, 84, was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1. Authorities discovered a trail of blood on her front porch, and the FBI released security camera footage showing an armed and masked individual outside her door on the night she disappeared. No arrests have been made in the case, though a former FBI agent recently claimed investigators were closing in on a suspect. Guthrie returned to "Today" in April. Sources indicated that NBC staff were instructed to maintain a "business as usual" approach and not to formally acknowledge her return or her mother's disappearance.
