Savannah Guthrie has released a new video plea to the captors of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for nearly six months. The NBC News anchor implored those holding her mother to "do the right thing" and "tell us where to look for her."
"The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way," Guthrie said in an emotional video posted to Instagram on Monday. "So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her."
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on the evening of January 31, when she was dropped off at her home near Tucson, Arizona, after a dinner with relatives. She was reported missing on February 1.
Investigators have treated the case as a kidnapping for ransom. Several ransom notes were sent to the family and media in the days following her disappearance, with one reportedly demanding $6 million in cryptocurrency. While some of these notes were later determined to be fake, the FBI confirmed earlier this month that the investigation is ongoing.
Savannah Guthrie and her family have offered a $1 million reward for information leading to their mother's recovery. Despite the reward and ongoing investigation, no suspects have been identified. Surveillance footage showing a masked individual on Nancy Guthrie's front steps on the night of her alleged abduction remains a key piece of evidence.
Following a leave of absence, Savannah Guthrie returned to her role on NBC's "Today" in April. She has continued to acknowledge her mother's disappearance publicly, including a brief appearance in June during a "Today" segment where she stated, "We are in agony. We cannot be at peace ... this is a moment to tell you that we need your help."
Guthrie reiterated her belief that her mother's abductors "have tried to do things the right way," but she did not elaborate on this statement. She concluded the video plea by saying, "For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice."
