SAS Veteran Christian Craighead Defies UK Ban, Discusses Memoir in US YouTube Interview

Christian Craighead, a former SAS soldier, has publicly discussed his memoir, "One Man In," in a five-hour YouTube interview, defying a ban imposed by UK defense chiefs. The memoir, detailing a solo operation against jihadists in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2019, cannot be published or discussed by Craighead within the United Kingdom.

The 51-year-old former Warrant Officer, who was serving as a liaison officer with Kenyan forces during the 2019 DusitD2 hotel complex attack, was prevented from publishing his account due to a UK Special Forces confidential contract he previously signed. The memoir was released in the United States, where such restrictions do not apply.

Craighead's YouTube conversation with a US podcaster garnered over 800,000 views within 24 hours. During the interview, he reportedly criticized the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) position.

Craighead was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his actions in Nairobi before leaving UK forces and relocating to the United States. He subsequently worked for U.S. President Donald Trump's security team, and Trump reportedly congratulated him personally.

The Ministry of Defence stated that employees, past and present, are obligated to uphold their contractual agreements. A spokesperson indicated that any breach is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and the department reserves the right to take legal action. UK Special Forces have faced memoir restrictions for approximately 30 years, following controversies surrounding accounts from the Gulf War.

Craighead unsuccessfully challenged the ban in the UK High Court in 2023, reportedly selling his medals to fund his legal efforts. Last week, the MoD obtained an injunction to prevent the release of "One Man In" in the UK and to bar newspapers from interviewing Craighead.
