Sarah Palin Mourns Death of Boyfriend Ron Duguay
Former Alaska Governor announces the passing of her boyfriend, NHL legend Ron Duguay, after a battle with colon cancer.
Sarah Palin announced on Thursday the death of her boyfriend, Ron Duguay, after a months-long battle with colon cancer. He was 69.
Palin shared the news on social media, stating, "It is with a shattered heart, but also deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now. He fought so hard. Love never ends."
Duguay, a former NHL player, was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in December 2024, which later spread to his liver.
Palin and Duguay began their relationship in 2022. Throughout Duguay's illness, the couple publicly shared their support for one another. On Monday, Palin had asked for prayers for Duguay, posting an image of herself at his hospital bedside.
Duguay expressed his gratitude for Palin's presence during his difficult times. In March, he shared a photo of them from the hospital, writing that Palin "was with me during my most difficult time, sleeping next to me in a chair for 5 days while i was recovering."

Duguay's daughter, Shay Thomas, also frequently accompanied him during treatments. A month prior to his death, Duguay posted a photo with Thomas and his ex-wife, Robin Bobo.

Palin, the former governor of Alaska, had previously told The New York Post in 2022 that after her 2020 divorce from Todd Palin, she did not anticipate entering a new relationship. However, she reconnected with Duguay, a former New York Rangers star, who offered to show her around New York City as she prepared for a court case against The New York Times. A Manhattan federal judge later found the Times not liable for defamation in that case.

Palin described Duguay as someone she could discuss personal matters with, praising his common sense and patriotism. Duguay also attended court with Palin during her defamation trial.
