Sarah Harris, who hosted the Australian current affairs program 'The Project' from 2023 to 2025, has disclosed that she experienced substantial hair loss during her time on the show. Harris, 44, shared in a recent Instagram video that her hair was being "tortured" by daily styling, leading to it falling out in clumps.

"As good as my hair looked on tele, it was actually falling out in clumps," Harris stated in the clip, displaying short pieces of new hair growth. "It was being tortured. But after a year (off screens), can you see all that extra growth? That is all new hair coming through."

Despite the adverse effects on her hair, Harris expressed that she misses the styling and beauty treatments associated with her television work. "I really miss the glam," she said. "I miss the girls. I miss the false lashes, the daily blow dries."

She reflected on the cancellation of 'The Project' last year, noting that the decision came as a shock. "I'm of the opinion that you don't get angry when a show is axed, you just be thankful that you were able to have the experience," she told Stellar Magazine.

Harris suggested that audience demographics may have shifted over the show's 16-year run, with viewers' lives evolving. "I think people who watched The Project had grown up and their lives had changed... They might have started watching the show in their mid-20s. Now they've got a mortgage and kids... they're not watching TV as much as they used to."

Following her departure from television, Harris took an eight-month break to focus on her two sons. She is now working as a newsreader on Nova 96.9's Sydney breakfast show, "Ricki-Lee & Tim," embracing radio as a more personal medium. While she remains hopeful about a potential return to commercial television, she believes the industry is at a "pivot point."
