Sarah Abo Tipped to Join Seven After Exit from Nine's Today Show

Sarah Abo is reportedly being courted by Seven Network, just days after announcing her departure from Nine's "Today" show. Sources indicate the 39-year-old presenter is being considered for a role in Seven's Melbourne newsroom, potentially a weekend bulletin with a path to a weeknight position.

Abo announced her exit from Nine on Wednesday afternoon via a press release. She has been on maternity leave and has not been a regular co-host on "Today" since Karl Stefanovic departed in June. Following Stefanovic's exit, Abo had been hosting alongside various guest co-hosts.

Nine confirmed that Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort will be the new hosts of "Today," replacing Stefanovic and Abo. The appointments were made following "extensive research, viewer behaviour and audience feedback," according to a Nine statement. Jeffreys, who has been with the "Today" show family for nearly 15 years, expressed her honor in continuing the program's legacy. Steinfort described the role as a privilege and expressed excitement about working with Jeffreys.

As part of the broader reshuffle at Nine, Belinda Russell will permanently co-host "Today Extra" with David Campbell. Alicia Loxley will continue as the anchor for Melbourne's 6pm weeknight bulletin on 9News Melbourne.

The new "Today" hosting team is scheduled to begin on September 18.

Abo's statement on her departure thanked viewers for allowing her to be part of their mornings and acknowledged her time at Nine, which included work on "60 Minutes." She reflected on motherhood as a new chapter and expressed gratitude to the "Today" team, describing them as family.

Abo's exit follows the abrupt resignation of her former "Today" co-host, Karl Stefanovic, in June. Nine stated that Stefanovic could not continue with the network while also hosting his podcast, which he later deleted after facing backlash for an interview with Tommy Robinson.
