Sarah Abo Departs Channel Nine, Ending Tenure as Today Show Co-Host
The presenter, currently on maternity leave, announced her departure, stating it marks a new chapter in her life.
Sarah Abo has announced she will be leaving Channel Nine and concluding her role as co-host of the Today show at the end of the year. The presenter, who is currently on maternity leave, shared the news via a press release on Wednesday.
"Words can't express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine. Without you, there is no Today show," Abo stated. "Together with 60 Minutes, I've spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life. Becoming a mum has heralded a new chapter and sharing that with our audience has been truly special."
She continued, "As many of you know, this has been a significant journey for my family and will continue to be my greatest achievement. I'd like to thank the wider Today team - the amazing crew, incredible producers and my wonderful fellow hosts - you all know how much you mean to me. It takes a special kind of crazy to wake up at the hours we do but it's so much easier when the team feels like family. I'll miss you all dearly."
Nine's Executive Director of News and Current Affairs, Fiona Dear, acknowledged Abo's contributions. "Sarah has been an integral part of the Today team, bringing warmth, energy and first-class journalism to the program each morning," Dear said. "It takes enormous skill to front three-and-a-half hours of live television every day, and Sarah did it with sharp journalistic instincts. We thank her for everything she brought to Today, and wish Sarah and her family all the very best."
Abo's departure follows the exit of her former Today co-host Karl Stefanovic in June. Stefanovic resigned from the network after backlash over an interview with Tommy Robinson, which he initially posted to his podcast before deleting it. Channel Nine stated at the time that Stefanovic could not continue working at the network while hosting his podcast.
Sarah Abo joined Nine in 2019 as a 60 Minutes reporter and was announced as a co-host of Today alongside Karl Stefanovic in 2023. She had previously filled in for Allison Langdon in 2022. Abo and her husband Cyrus Moran welcomed their first child, a son named Sonny, in July.
Channel Nine is expected to announce the Today show's lineup for 2027 soon.
