“The View” co-host Sara Haines reiterated concerns about socialist candidates on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of voter research amid a reported dispute with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office. Haines cautioned that some candidates aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America advocate for reducing or eliminating law enforcement, borders, and prisons.

“I can’t imagine a country where no prisons exist, no law enforcement, no borders,” Haines stated on the show. She suggested that such platforms could lead to anarchy and warned viewers not to be swayed solely by promises of affordability. "Make sure you’re not sold on the idea of affordability but people coming in have other agendas,” she added.

The discussion touched upon the increasing appeal of socialist ideas among younger generations, a trend attributed to economic factors such as rising home prices and concerns about AI's impact on jobs. Haines acknowledged these economic pressures but stressed the need for voters to examine candidates' full platforms.

This exchange follows reports of a feud between “The View” and Mamdani’s office. An aide to Mamdani reportedly criticized ABC executives after Haines labeled Darializa Avila Chevalier, a socialist congressional candidate endorsed by Mamdani, as an antisemite. Haines had made these comments on June 24, referencing Chevalier's presence at an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023, the day after Hamas' attacks in Israel.

Mamdani has recently seen political influence grow after three candidates he endorsed in New York congressional primaries — Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Chevalier — secured victories over establishment Democratic candidates.

According to Semafor, Mamdani’s team had proposed having socialist candidates appear on “The View,” but the show declined. An ABC source indicated that the program typically does not book interviews with non-elected candidates.
