Sara Cox was seen in a fried egg costume outside BBC Studios on Wednesday, promoting her upcoming BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. The presenter's new show is scheduled to launch on Monday, July 6, replacing Scott Mills.
Cox, 51, filmed a promotional clip for the show, which is set to begin at 6:30 a.m. She was seen wearing a party hat and holding a sign that read, "Come have breakfast with Sara Cox!" During the shoot, she was also pictured with a sausage on a fork and seated at a gingham-covered table.
The move to the breakfast slot was announced in April. Cox will be taking over from Scott Mills, who was removed from the program following allegations of serious sexual offenses against a teenage boy. Mills was questioned by police in 2018, but the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2019 due to insufficient evidence. The BBC was aware of the allegations as early as 2017.
Cox appeared on Vernon Kay's Radio 2 show to share the news of her new role. She revealed that her first guest on the inaugural show will be Hollywood star Tom Hanks, who will discuss his new film, "Toy Story 5."
"I can now announce, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and everyone in between, please do join me for my very first Breakfast Show on Radio 2 on 6th of July," Cox said. "Three weeks today! Very very excited. It is 6.30am. The date is the 6th of July."
Cox recently wrapped up her seven-and-a-half-year run on her teatime show, celebrating its conclusion with a dinner at Devonshire Soho. She shared photos from the event on Instagram, marking the end of her show with a non-alcoholic Guinness.
Scott Mills, a colleague and friend of Cox's for three decades, is reportedly suing the BBC for unfair dismissal. Friends believe Mills was made a scapegoat by the BBC's then-outgoing director-general Tim Davie amid other scandals. Mills' husband, Sam, has been a source of support during this difficult time.
