Sandra Bullock described a significant "wake up call" she experienced while caring for her late partner, Bryan Randall, during his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) journey. Speaking on the "Good Hang" podcast with host Amy Poehler, Bullock, 62, reflected on realizing she had not been prioritizing her own well-being while tending to others.

"I am always the caretaker," Bullock explained. "I’m not good at asking for help, but I needed help, and I needed to ask it in a way that was safe." She credited "a few angels" for stepping forward to assist her during Randall's health struggles, which concluded with his passing in August 2023 at the age of 57.

Among those who offered support was her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado. Bullock-Prado expressed concern, warning her sister, "If you do not start taking care if you, something is gonna happen to you, and what’s gonna happen to [your kids]?"

Bullock, mother to son Louis and daughter Laila, noted that the demands on caregivers are immense. "The caretaker world is absolutely underserved," she stated, having since encountered many individuals whose family members have been diagnosed with ALS. While acknowledging that her experience is just one perspective, she shared what she learned from her situation.

She also revealed that she kept Randall's health issues private at his request, not speaking about his diagnosis publicly until three years after his death. She shared on the "SmartLess" podcast in August that his wish for her to remain silent, while understandable, led to a feeling of isolation. "He asked me not to share," Bullock said. "I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed... My person left a lot earlier than the body left."

More recently, Bullock mentioned in a conversation with "Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce" that her daughter has been encouraging her to consider dating again, more than a decade after her relationship with Randall began.
