San Jose has opened its own version of the Las Vegas Sphere, a 360-degree immersive entertainment venue called The Domes. City leaders officially unveiled the new attraction Wednesday, hoping it will become a significant draw for the Bay Area.
The high-tech dome soft-launched in mid-June, coinciding with the FIFA Club World Cup. The venue features 8K projection and spatial audio, designed to enhance experiences for sporting events, concerts, and art exhibits. "Walk into a 360° dome wrapped in 8K projection and spatial sound — the screen is everywhere you look," according to the venue's website. "It’s an immersive theater environment that can take you anywhere you want to go."
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan drew a parallel between the new venue and its more famous counterpart in Las Vegas. "Cancel the Vegas tickets, we have the sphere at home!" he posted on X.
The Domes has already hosted watch parties for World Cup matches, with tickets priced at $49 for a single game or $109 for an all-day pass. After 9 p.m., the venue transitions into an afterparty space with food, drinks, and music for $24.
Beyond sporting events, The Domes is slated to host concerts, private functions, and immersive art installations. The inspiration for the venue comes from the success of the Las Vegas Sphere, which generated $379 million in ticket sales in 2025.
While The Domes stands at 60 feet tall, significantly shorter than the Sphere's 366 feet, local residents have expressed positive reactions to the new attraction. "I honestly think it’s really amazing. It’s awesome what they’ve done with this parking lot and this area, and the interior of it is cool," one resident commented.
