San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York is facing renewed attention and criticism for his past slogan, "We win with class," following his recent arrest and no-contest plea in connection with prostitution in East Palestine, Ohio.

In 2014, after the team parted ways with coach Jim Harbaugh, York declared the team's mission was to "win with class," citing off-field issues and perceived declines in standards. This motto has drawn significant attention after bodycam footage from his arrest was released.

York, who inherited his stake in the team and rose to CEO and principal owner, has been a prominent figure in the franchise's recent history, overseeing stadium construction and multiple Super Bowl appearances. However, the recent legal proceedings have led to the motto being widely reinterpreted and criticized.

The NFL's Personal Conduct Policy applies to owners, coaches, staff, and players, requiring the avoidance of conduct detrimental to the league's integrity and public confidence. The policy states that owners and executives are held to a higher standard due to the institutional weight of their actions.

York has previously spoken out on public issues, including condemning attacks on kneeling players in 2017. However, critics argue that such values are compromised when an individual's own conduct contradicts their public pronouncements, particularly when those pronouncements emphasize ethical standards.
