San Diego Mosque Where Three Died in May Placed on Lockdown
The Islamic Center of San Diego experienced a security lockdown Tuesday, just months after a deadly shooting.
The Islamic Center of San Diego, the site of a fatal shooting in May that claimed three lives, was placed on lockdown Tuesday out of an abundance of caution, police announced.
The San Diego Police Department confirmed the lockdown around 3 p.m., stating that a police presence was established at the location to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area and indicated that further updates would be provided as more information became available.
The mosque was the scene of a mass shooting on May 18, when two individuals, Caleb Vazquez and Cain Clark, opened fire. The perpetrators inscribed anti-Muslim hate messages on their weapons before taking their own lives. The incident led to heightened security protocols at the Islamic Center in the weeks that followed.
