San Bernardino McDonald's Catches Fire Near Historic Birthplace
Firefighters battled a blaze at a McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino, California, where the fast-food chain first began.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino, California, on Friday, with the blaze erupting near the establishment's indoor playground.
Crews from San Bernardino County Fire worked to extinguish the flames, which sent smoke pouring from the building. The fire was contained within approximately one hour. Officials reported that the fire was located within an exterior wall and between the ceiling and roof. Videos from the scene showed smoke emanating from the roof of the structure.
Firefighters employed a multi-pronged approach to combat the fire, attacking it from the exterior, the roof, and the interior of the building. The operation took place amid high outdoor temperatures.
No civilians were reported injured, but one firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a heat-related issue. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
San Bernardino County Fire officials noted the historical significance of the location, as the city of San Bernardino was the site where the McDonald brothers opened their first restaurant in 1940. "In the city known as the birthplace of McDonald’s, the response brought firefighters to one of the most recognizable names in the community," the department stated on Instagram.
