Former Gambino crime family underboss Sammy "The Bull" Gravano has detailed a pivotal moment in mob history: a request to help assassinate then-boss Paul Castellano, a move that cleared the path for John Gotti's rise to power. Gravano shared the recollection during an appearance on the "Hang Out With Sean Hannity" podcast.

According to Gravano, Gambino associate Angelo Ruggiero approached him with the proposition. "We have problems with Paul. I need your help. We need you — me and John Gotti," Gravano recalled Ruggiero saying. When Gravano asked what he was needed for, Ruggiero stated, "We're gonna kill him."

Gravano expressed surprise at the audacious nature of the request, asking Ruggiero if they intended to kill the "boss of bosses." Ruggiero confirmed and reiterated the need for Gravano's assistance. Gravano also questioned Gotti's whereabouts, noting the significance of the operation and why Gotti himself wasn't directly involved in recruiting him.

"Angelo, first of all, where's John Gotti? You're talking to me. Where is he?" Gravano recounted asking. Ruggiero insisted Gotti "had something to do." Gravano emphasized the magnitude of the plan, telling Ruggiero, "I don't know what's more important than that."

Castellano and his underboss, Thomas Bilotti, were ultimately murdered in December 1985 outside a New York City steakhouse. John Gotti was later convicted for ordering the hit, solidifying his control over the Gambino family.

In his conversation with host Sean Hannity, Gravano also discussed his own extensive involvement in mob activities, including participation in nearly 20 murders. The full interview is available on platforms including iHeart, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
