Sam Wood to Appeal Bail Denial in Supreme Court

Sam Wood, known for his appearance on "The Bachelor," is scheduled to take his fight for bail to Queensland's Supreme Court. He was previously denied bail on domestic violence charges in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

Wood, 46, faces accusations of assaulting his wife, Snezana Wood, at a holiday unit in Noosa. The alleged offenses include throwing her into a wall, choking her, and banging her head on the floor. These details emerged during the bail hearing on Thursday. Wood's solicitor, Mathew Cuskelly, confirmed his client's intention to pursue a bail application in the state's highest court.

Melbourne-based Wood has been in custody since his arrest over the weekend. According to court proceedings, his stepdaughter reported the alleged assault on Saturday night. Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris stated that Snezana Wood believed she was going to die during the incident, as her breathing was reportedly restricted to the point of "cessation of breath."

Wood's defense attorney, Mr. Cuskelly, contested aspects of the prosecution's account, suggesting Wood denied strangulation and might have a self-defense claim. He indicated that "hostilities" occurred and that Wood pushed his wife away after she moved towards him and yelled.

Acting Magistrate Janelle Boegheim denied the bail application, citing the prosecution's case as "relatively strong." She indicated that bail could be reconsidered if the case's strength diminished.

A statement released on behalf of the Wood family stated they are "working through this as a family and are thoroughly co-operating with the authorities."

Wood, who starred in the third season of "The Bachelor" in 2015, later developed a successful fitness business, "28 By Sam Wood." The wellness businesses associated with the platform recently cut ties with him. He has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting and has stated he will defend the charges.
