Sam Leavitt Cleared to Play After Injury Scare, Ole Miss Suspicions

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt has been cleared to play against Ole Miss in their top-10 matchup, following a two-day period of uncertainty surrounding an upper-body injury. Leavitt was initially listed as "doubtful" on Wednesday's injury report, a designation that was later upgraded to "questionable" on Thursday.

The development caused confusion as Leavitt appeared healthy following LSU's 45-14 victory over Louisiana Tech the previous weekend. Despite throwing three interceptions in that game, there was no indication of an injury from Leavitt or the coaching staff immediately after the contest.

LSU head coach Kiffin addressed the situation on ESPN's "College GameDay," stating, "Sam's doing great. Early in the week, had a scare in practice but had a great recovery, worked really hard, and he’s ready to go."

The uncertainty surrounding Leavitt's availability became the latest point of contention in the ongoing animosity between Ole Miss and Kiffin, who previously coached the Rebels. Ole Miss staff reportedly expressed suspicion about the "doubtful" designation, with ESPN reporting that the Rebels did not believe LSU's initial injury report.

Leavitt has had a solid start to the season for LSU, despite last week's turnovers. He has accumulated 524 passing yards and five rushing touchdowns, ranking second in the SEC in both categories. The Tigers will rely on him to perform well against Ole Miss, whose quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, is also on a strong stretch.

Chambliss has thrown for 574 yards and five touchdowns this season, completing 71 percent of his passes. The game, with significant bragging rights and playoff implications on the line, is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
