Ryan Thomas's Daughter Scarlett Releases Debut Single After Opting Out of GCSEs
The 17-year-old, daughter of actors Ryan Thomas and Tina O'Brien, has launched her first song, 'Onesie,' on major streaming platforms.
Ryan Thomas has announced that his 17-year-old daughter, Scarlett, is releasing her debut single titled 'Onesie.' The track is now available on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Scarlett, whose mother is Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien, previously garnered attention earlier this year when she decided to forgo her GCSE exams to pursue a career in music. Her father shared the news on the podcast "The Thomas Brothers," alongside his brothers Adam and Scott.
Thomas expressed pride in his daughter's initiative, highlighting her role in creating her own music video. "She's produced, directed it, brought her friends in, you know, picked out the locations," he said. "I got her a car to go around Manchester to different locations and she's done it all on the phone and edited it and put it all together herself. I'm like, that's magic."
Adam Thomas commented on his niece's drive, noting the significant creative input she has demonstrated at her age. "Just like if you look back at what we were doing at 17 18 years old and and the fact that she's putting all this effort in to what she loves doing," he remarked.
Scarlett has been actively involved in the music industry, working with a manager and meeting deadlines. Ryan Thomas described her vision and dedication as remarkable for her age, especially when many young people are still finding their direction. "What's great is she's found this purpose, found something she loves, and now she's getting to show it to people," he added.
While GCSEs are not legally required in England, they can impact future educational and employment opportunities. However, Scarlett's burgeoning acting career, which includes a role in the 2023 series "Waterloo Road," may provide alternative pathways. Reflecting on her decision not to take GCSEs, she previously stated, "Watching everyone get their GCSE results today wondering if I could've had good results but I will forever wonder."
Her choice to prioritize music and acting over traditional exams has sparked discussion. Some have questioned her decision, while others have supported her, emphasizing that exam results do not define a person's potential for success. Scarlett has also addressed criticism regarding her opportunities, asserting her right to pursue chances presented to her.
Her mother, Tina O'Brien, has publicly expressed pride in Scarlett's acting achievements, noting her hard work on "Waterloo Road" and her subsequent award nomination.
