Ryan Seacrest has shared that he was forced to withdraw his acceptance to attend the wedding of pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce due to a last-minute work commitment. Seacrest explained on his radio show, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest," that he had initially RSVP'd yes to the event, which took place on July 3rd at Madison Square Garden.
However, a scheduling conflict arose when Disney hired him to host a Fourth of July special on July 3rd and 4th. Seacrest stated that he tried to find a way to do both, but the live broadcast on the 3rd made it impossible to attend the wedding, which was scheduled for the afternoon of the same day. He described the decision as having "no choice."
Seacrest conveyed his disappointment, noting that he had been excited about the invitation and had even discussed the "event" with Swift prior to his cancellation. He recalled Swift mentioning how much fun the wedding would be and how late it would go, which made backing out even harder. He clarified that he confirmed his attendance a couple of weeks after his initial RSVP before ultimately having to cancel.
Swift and Kelce, who began dating in 2023, married in front of approximately 1,000 guests. Swift's representative confirmed the event to Fox News Digital. The couple opted for a non-traditional wedding party, with Swift's brother serving as "Man of Honor" and Kelce's brother as "Best Man." The wedding attire for the bride was reportedly designed by Jonathan Anderson of Christian Dior Haute Couture, with accessories by Cartier.
Swift previously shared in an interview with Time magazine that she and Kelce had begun dating before her public appearance at a Chiefs game in September 2023, indicating they had a period of their relationship that was kept private. She stated that their relationship began after Kelce mentioned her on his podcast, and by the time she attended his game, they were already a couple.
