Ryan Phillippe Recalls 'Wild Night' With Ex-Wife Reese Witherspoon After 2006 Oscars

Ryan Phillippe recently shared reflections on a "wild night" with his ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon, recalling the events following the 2006 Academy Awards. The actor appeared on "Live With Kelly And Mark" to discuss the memorable evening when his film "Crash" won the Oscar for Best Picture, while Witherspoon secured the Best Actress award for her role in "Walk The Line."
Phillippe described the experience of stepping onto the stage to accept the Best Picture award as "an out-of-body, out-of-mind experience." He recounted a humorous moment when he expressed his admiration to presenter Morgan Freeman, whom he had not previously met, even as the film's producer was accepting the award.
Following the awards ceremony, Phillippe and Witherspoon attended an after-party, staying out until the early morning hours. The couple, who met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party in 1997 and married in June 1999, welcomed two children during their marriage: Ava, now 27, and Deacon, 22. They later announced their separation in October 2006, with their divorce finalized the following year.
Both Phillippe and Witherspoon have previously spoken about their youth when they married. Witherspoon, who was 23 at the time of her wedding and had two children by age 27, has suggested that knowing oneself better is beneficial. Phillippe, in a 2015 interview, attributed the end of their marriage partly to their youth and the pressures of their respective careers in the entertainment industry.
Despite their divorce, Phillippe and Witherspoon have maintained a positive co-parenting relationship. They reunited in May of this year for their son Deacon's graduation from New York University. Both Ava and Deacon have pursued careers in the entertainment industry, with Ava appearing in television shows and music videos, and Deacon acting in projects like "Never Have I Ever."
Witherspoon later married Jim Toth in 2011, with whom she has a son, Tennessee, 14. The couple announced their separation in 2023. Phillippe has also had other relationships and is a parent to daughter Khai with Alexis Knapp.
