Ryan Garcia Claims Floyd Mayweather Agreed to Title Fight

Welterweight champion Ryan Garcia has publicly stated that he and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather have agreed to a fight for Garcia's WBC welterweight championship. Garcia announced the potential bout on X, formerly Twitter, claiming it would be a "real fight" at 147 pounds, pitting his title against Mayweather's undefeated 50-0 record.

Garcia shared posts on social media, including an image of himself on a video call with Mayweather, stating, "Just got off the phone with @floydmayweather. Talking about fighting – it’s real and he wants to do a real fight 147. He and I both agreed to post this! Let’s Rumble 🥊👊" He further asserted that they "both agreed to fight" for the "147 WBC world championship."

However, a report from Darshan Desai of Uncrowned, citing an unnamed source, indicated that "no serious negotiations for Garcia vs Mayweather have taken place at the time of this writing." Mayweather himself has not publicly responded to Garcia's claims.

The public exchange began earlier in the month when Garcia challenged Mayweather on X, writing, "Okay Floyd let’s see how much you love that '0'🤔😤" Garcia expressed a desire for a bout that would put Mayweather's undefeated record on the line, rather than an exhibition match.

Floyd Mayweather, with a professional record of 50-0 and 27 knockouts, last fought in 2017, defeating Conor McGregor by knockout. Garcia, at 28 years old, holds a record of 26-2 with 21 knockouts and has recently secured consecutive wins, including a unanimous decision against Mario Barrios and a knockout victory over Conor Benn in September.
