Rock musician Ryan Adams has canceled his upcoming European tour due to a debilitating health battle and financial difficulties. Adams, 51, announced the cancellation on social media, stating he has been "sick" and that "tough times" have led to the postponement of his fall tour. His promoter confirmed the cancellation, citing "circumstances beyond our control" and apologizing to ticket holders, who will receive refunds.
Adams revealed that he is battling Ménière’s disease, a rare chronic disorder of the inner ear. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Ménière’s disease can cause tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hearing loss, and vertigo, which can affect balance and mobility. The condition has no known cure, though symptoms can be managed.
In addition to his health issues, Adams also indicated he is experiencing financial hardship. In a since-deleted social media post, he reportedly stated he was "broke" and was selling off prized possessions, including guitars, recording equipment, and a Cadillac, to make ends meet. He described the music business as "vile and full of snakes" but expressed a desire to continue making records as long as he could afford to.
This period of personal difficulty comes years after multiple women, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore, accused Adams of sexual abuse, harassment, and psychological abuse. At the time of the accusations, Adams denied the claims, but he later issued an apology to the Daily Mail in 2020, stating, "There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I've mistreated people throughout my life and career."
Despite the tour cancellation, Adams's promoter stated that he is "doing OK and working hard to finish the new album trilogy," with new music expected soon.
