Ruth Langsford Tearfully Recounts Final Moments With Estranged Husband Eamonn Holmes' Dog

Ruth Langsford became visibly emotional on the television show Loose Women as she recounted the final moments of Maggie, the border collie cross she shared with her estranged husband, Eamonn Holmes.

Langsford, 66, shared with her fellow panelists that their 16-year-old dog had died after a sudden bronchial infection. She revealed that both she and Holmes were present with Maggie until the very end. "We were with her at the end. It was very sad but it was very peaceful," Langsford stated.

She also mentioned that their son, Jack, managed to return home in time to say goodbye to the family pet. "I believe Maggie waited for him, I really do... She knew it was him and she licked his face," Langsford said, visibly moved. "I'm so glad we were all there. It's heartbreaking."

Maggie, a rescue dog adopted in 2011 from a Dogs Trust center, was a familiar presence on the ITV daytime show This Morning, often joining Langsford and Holmes on set when they co-presented. Langsford expressed gratitude for the time they had with Maggie, acknowledging the deep bond they shared.

Langsford described how she knew it was time to say goodbye when Maggie, who used to greet her enthusiastically, no longer got up when she arrived home. "She was just lying in the hallway and she didn't get up," she recalled.

She opted not to tell her mother, Joan, who lives with dementia, about Maggie's passing. Langsford explained that her mother was very fond of Maggie and loved their visits together.

Last week, Langsford announced Maggie's death on Instagram to her 1.1 million followers, writing: "It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our beautiful Maggie has gone to sleep forever. She was 16 years old and sadly this was her time. Her passing was painless and peaceful and we were with her until the very end."

Langsford and Holmes, also 66, announced their separation in May 2024, after 27 years together and 14 years of marriage. Their divorce proceedings are still ongoing.
