Rutgers Dominates Howard in Record-Setting Victory

Rutgers secured its first win of the 2026 season with a commanding 58-7 victory over Howard on Friday night. Running back Antwan Raymond led the charge, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns. The Scarlet Knights offense was highly efficient, scoring on 10 of their 12 possessions and accumulating 534 total yards.

Quarterback Dylan Lonergan had a standout performance, passing for 214 yards and two touchdowns in just three quarters of play. This outing marked a significant improvement after entering the game with five interceptions on the season. Wide receiver KJ Duff, an AP preseason second-team All-America selection, contributed five receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown. Duff also achieved a program milestone, becoming the 11th player in Rutgers history to surpass 2,000 career receiving yards and the first to record a touchdown reception in five consecutive games.

Howard's sole touchdown came on a 75-yard run by Eden James, son of NFL Hall of Famer Edgerrin James. James finished the game with 116 yards on seven carries. The Bison recorded 184 total yards.

The victory marked the 100th career win for Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. Schiano has compiled a record of 100-111 in 18 seasons over two stints with the Scarlet Knights. He joins an elite group of active Bowl Subdivision head coaches with 100 victories at their current institution, including Kirk Ferentz (Iowa), Dabo Swinney (Clemson), Troy Calhoun (Air Force), and Kirby Smart (Georgia).

For Howard, the game highlighted challenges against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. The Bison have been outscored 113-7 in their last two games against Indiana and Rutgers. Their only win against an FBS school was a 43-40 victory over UNLV in 2017. Rutgers has now outscored Howard 318-67 across their seven matchups.

Howard is scheduled to host Hampton on Oct. 3. Rutgers will host defending champion Indiana on Oct. 3.
