At least 12 people were killed and 17 injured, including two children, in overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and the wider region, local officials reported. In Kyiv, six of the eight casualties were railway workers from the state company Ukrzaliznytsia after a depot was hit. Four people were killed in the town of Boryspil.

Civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged in the strikes, leading to fires in three of Kyiv's districts, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Russia's Ministry of Defense stated that its "massive strike using high-precision weapons" targeted Ukraine's "military-industrial and fuel-energy" facilities in Kyiv and the region.

These attacks follow a previous incident on Friday where 38 people were killed in Russian strikes on a weapons depot in the Kyiv region, which caused detonations of shells, mines, and drones. Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
