At least eight people were killed and dozens injured across Ukraine in overnight Russian strikes, including an attack that hit a coffee shop in Sumy, Ukrainian officials reported Saturday. The assaults prompted President Volodymyr Zelensky to reiterate his call for allies to accelerate weapon deliveries, particularly for air defense systems.

CCTV footage from the Piccolino coffee shop in Sumy captured the moment of an explosion, showing people scrambling to the ground as windows shattered. In the city of Sumy, five people died and 30 were injured in the overnight strikes. Emergency personnel were seen working at the site of the attack, with damage visible to apartment buildings. In a border district of Sumy region, a man was killed after stepping on an explosive device.

Elsewhere in Ukraine, glide bombs injured 10 people in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia. Two people were killed and another wounded by a missile strike on the southern port city of Odesa. In the capital Kyiv, 12 people were wounded during an overnight attack involving ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles, and 121 drones in the overnight attacks nationwide, managing to down at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones.

President Zelensky, in his nightly video address, emphasized the need for faster implementation of arms supply agreements with partners. He specifically mentioned an agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump to grant Ukraine a license to produce its own Patriot interceptor missiles. Ukraine has faced critical shortages of munitions for its Patriot systems in recent weeks, struggling to intercept high-speed ballistic missiles. The country has been appealing to allies for increased supplies and for European cooperation on developing its own anti-ballistic air defense capabilities.
