At least 14 people were killed and more than 120 were wounded on Friday when two Russian drones struck a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, the central Ukrainian city where President Volodymyr Zelensky was born. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported that 22 children were among the injured, with five in serious condition.
Zelensky described the attack as "absolutely cynical and despicable," alleging that a second drone targeted emergency services responding to the initial strike. He urged international accountability for Russia, labeling such attacks as "terrorist acts."
The strike on Kryvyi Rih occurs as Russia escalates its aerial bombardment of Ukraine, with the conflict nearing the 4 1/2-year mark. This incident follows a Russian ballistic missile attack on the capital, Kyiv, on Thursday, which killed 17 people.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has intensified its own attacks on Russian targets, including oil facilities and logistics infrastructure, in an effort to disrupt Moscow's war-fighting capabilities.
