Russia Warns of Nuclear Strike on UK After TV Wargame Scenario

Russia's embassy in London has issued a nuclear threat to Britain and NATO, stating that any military action against Russian territory would be met with a response. The warning follows the airing of Sky TV's new program, "The Wargame," which simulated a fictional scenario where Russia attacks the United Kingdom.

The program featured prominent figures, including Michael Gove and Penny Mordaunt, acting out a war game. In the scenario, the "Prime Minister," played by Gove, orders a retaliatory strike against Russian cities Murmansk and Kaliningrad.

Murmansk is a strategic location housing Russia's Northern Fleet, while Kaliningrad, a semi-exclave between Poland and Lithuania, has been identified as a potential launch site for nuclear missiles. The Russian Embassy, in a post on its Telegram channel, specifically warned against any plans to blockade or strike Kaliningrad, emphasizing that "Any British or NATO military action against Russian territory would be met with a response."

The embassy's statement also referenced an article in The i Paper that described Kaliningrad as Vladimir Putin's "greatest weakness." However, NATO officials acknowledge the region's strategic importance, with some calling it the "Achilles heel of the Russian Federation."

Meanwhile, Lithuania and Poland are reportedly developing evacuation plans in anticipation of a potential full-blown conflict with Russia. These preparations involve establishing evacuation routes through the Suwalki Gap, a narrow strip of territory connecting Poland and Lithuania that borders Belarus and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. NATO strategists fear this corridor could be a target for Russian forces.

Vilnius and Warsaw are working on a bilateral agreement to formalize these plans, according to the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Centre. Nationwide drills, including simulated evacuations at the Polish-Lithuanian border, have commenced in Lithuania. Officials noted that the plans would also cover the evacuation of civilians from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently warned of intelligence suggesting Russian plans for hybrid attacks using drones and missiles against Ukraine's supporters, including Poland. These actions are described as potentially more dangerous than previous provocations. Russia is suspected of involvement in covert attacks on various sites in NATO countries, including incidents in Britain, Estonia, and Germany.
