Russia Launches Deadly Overnight Strikes Across Ukraine
President Zelenskyy reports that missile and drone attacks targeted energy infrastructure and residential buildings in at least 12 regions, resulting in fatalities.
Russia conducted a widespread overnight assault on Ukraine, launching dozens of missiles and drones that struck energy infrastructure and residential buildings across at least 12 regions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Wednesday.
"One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively," Zelenskyy stated, describing the attacks as "vile."
The Russian Ministry of Defense characterized the operation as a "massive strike" aimed at Ukraine's defense industries in Kyiv and other cities.
In Pryluky, located in the Chernihiv region, an "ordinary" five-story apartment building was hit, resulting in five deaths and 26 injuries, including five children, according to the president's office. Emergency responders were working to locate any remaining individuals at the site.
Additional casualties were reported in other cities, with two people injured by missiles that struck high-rises in Kremenchuk and apartment buildings in Dnipro. Two fatalities were also reported in Kyiv, and two in Oleksandriya.
Zelenskyy indicated that Russia fired approximately 70 missiles, many of which were ballistic, in addition to attack drones.
