Russia Attacks Kyiv With Missiles and Drones, Killing One

Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones overnight Monday, killing one person and injuring eight others, according to local authorities. The assault also damaged buildings and infrastructure in three districts of the capital.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched a large-scale air attack involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and 269 drones. Ukrainian air defenses successfully destroyed or suppressed 243 drones and four missiles, the air force stated.

Strikes were recorded at 25 locations, and debris from downed targets fell in 8 locations, the Air Force added.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated Monday that it carried out a “massive strike” on targets in Ukraine overnight using “ground-based high-precision weapons and strike drones.”

Targets hit in Kyiv included a data center, a logistics hub storing components for drones and cruise missiles, an industrial facility manufacturing drone components, and a locomotive depot where missiles were stored, according to the Russian ministry. A plant allegedly producing polymer materials for the military industrial complex was also struck in the Kyiv region.

The Russian ministry also reported striking a bulk carrier at sea, located 130 kilometers (80 miles) southwest of the Odesa port, which it claimed was carrying military and dual-use cargo.

In Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district, the attack damaged a private medical facility and a metro station, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported on Telegram. In the Dniprovskyi district, educational institutions and a sports facility sustained damage from falling debris in open areas, with debris also landing on non-residential buildings.

A fire broke out on the third floor of a medical facility within a 25-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district. Emergency services extinguished the blaze, according to the military administration. The attack also damaged windows in nearby buildings and a shopping center.
