Russia launched an overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv that wounded at least 11 people, including a child, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. The assault occurred early Saturday.
Ukrainian forces, in a separate action, struck Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov, damaging 21 tankers used for transporting oil and petroleum products, Ukraine’s General Staff reported. The attack also damaged four tugboats and two cargo ships, which were utilized by Russian forces for military logistics, the General Staff stated.
Russian officials offered a different account, stating that one person was killed in the drone attack and that only four ships sustained minor damage. The casualty was identified as a sailor on a technical support vessel, according to local Governor Yuri Slyusar. One of the damaged vessels was a tanker carrying methanol.
Explosions and fires were reported in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. In Solomianskyi, a strike ignited a fire in a three-story office and warehouse building. Another warehouse caught fire in the Dniprovskyi district after being hit.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 12 missiles of various types, including six ballistic missiles, and 121 drones against Ukraine. He stated that most drones and some missiles were intercepted but none of the ballistic missiles were downed, highlighting what he described as Ukraine's air defense gaps. Ukraine’s Air Force reported shooting down or electronically suppressing two missiles and 111 drones. The Air Force confirmed direct hits at 11 locations from ballistic missiles, two guided air-to-surface missiles, and seven attack drones. Falling debris from intercepted weapons was reported at three additional locations.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces targeted drone production facilities in Kyiv and the ports of Izmail and Chornomorsk in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region. The ministry also claimed Russian air defenses destroyed 178 Ukrainian drones overnight over eight Russian regions, the Crimean Peninsula, and the Black and Azov seas.
