Russell Wilson Reacts to Jaxson Dart's Potentially Season-Ending Injury
The former Giants quarterback expressed concern over the young player's injury during a segment on CBS Sports.
Russell Wilson voiced his dismay upon learning that New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart's knee injury, sustained during Monday's loss to the Rams, might be more severe than initially thought. Speaking on Tuesday's "Set, Hut!" program on CBS Sports, Wilson, who played for the Giants in the 2025 season, reacted to an ESPN report indicating Dart could require season-ending surgery for what was first diagnosed as a sprained MCL.
"Live watching it, I said, ‘Oh no, he may be out for the year’ in that moment," Wilson said. "And I’m praying that that is not the case because I know how much he cares, how much he loves the game, how much he means to that team.
With Jaxson being out, if this is the case, which is devastating news."
Co-host Kyle Long highlighted the Giants' thin quarterback depth, noting that wide receiver Braxton Berrios was listed as the emergency third quarterback. "So I would keep your phone on ringer just in case," Long added.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh addressed the media Tuesday regarding the reports about Dart's injury. "I’m not sure exactly what news or how anything has been stated, but right now, evaluations are ongoing," Harbaugh said. "We haven’t got any final decisions yet. We’ve learned a lot more.
I wouldn’t really want to share too much until decisions get made, and that takes more than one person. It takes everybody involved, so when we know what direction we’re gonna have to go, or whatever it might be, we’ll announce that. But we don’t have that, so I don’t want to get out of our skis on that."
Dart was injured in the first quarter of the Giants’ 28-6 loss at SoFi Stadium after a hit from Rams defender Byron Young. He was seen clutching his knee in pain, limped off the field, and underwent tests. He returned to the sideline in street clothes and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Dart did not speak to reporters following the loss.
Jameis Winston replaced Dart at quarterback, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and throwing one interception.
Wilson, currently a free agent, paused his playing career to join CBS Sports for its Sunday pregame show and other on-air duties, despite having received an offer to be a backup quarterback in 2026. His football show, "Set, Hut!" with Long, premiered on September 15.
