Actor Russell Crowe recently displayed his muscular physique during a workout session with Scottish wrestling star Drew McIntyre. The pair are collaborating on the upcoming "Highlander" reboot.

McIntyre shared photos of their training, captioning them "Gladiator x Warrior," a nod to Crowe's acclaimed role as Roman general Maximus in the 2000 film "Gladiator." Crowe, 62, appeared to channel the warrior spirit of his famed character, showcasing bulging biceps and a commanding presence, despite a noticeable increase in bulk and a full grey beard.

Crowe's portrayal of Maximus in "Gladiator" earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2001. He previously admitted in a 2020 interview with Variety that he was initially hesitant to accept the role. At the time, Crowe had gained 23 kilograms for his part in the 1999 drama "The Insider" and had shaved his head, making him feel ill-suited to play a Roman general.

He explained that he was coming off the shoot of "The Insider," was "gigantic," and had shaved his head for comfort and to allow wigs to be fitted more quickly. "I didn't look like any Roman general," Crowe told the magazine. His decision to consider the role was influenced by the involvement of director Ridley Scott. Crowe initially found the script unconvincing but agreed to meet with Scott at the producer's suggestion.

The "Highlander" reboot is a revival of the film franchise that originally starred Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert.

In personal news, Crowe was previously married to Danielle Spencer, with whom he has two sons. The couple divorced in 2018 after separating in 2012. Spencer has spoken of their continued friendship, stating that they still consider each other family and maintain respect despite the marriage ending.
