Russell Brand Trial Begins in London on Rape and Sexual Assault Charges
The comedian has pleaded not guilty to charges involving six women over a decade-long period.

Comedian Russell Brand appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday to face trial on multiple charges of rape and sexual assault. Brand, 51, has entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. These charges stem from allegations made by six women and are said to have occurred between 1999 and 2009.
Brand arrived at the court accompanied by his wife, Laura Gallacher, and was escorted by security. The trial is anticipated to last between 10 and 12 weeks. He has been released on bail leading up to the proceedings.
Prosecutors have previously stated that Brand is accused of raping a woman in a hotel room during a Labour Party conference. Other allegations include grabbing a television worker's breasts and forcing a sexual act in a toilet, as well as kissing and groping a radio station employee.
During his career, Brand gained prominence through his stand-up comedy, television hosting, and a BBC radio show. He also appeared in films such as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek." In recent years, he has shifted away from mainstream media, relocated to Florida, and cultivated a significant online following through videos that encompass wellness, conspiracy theories, and discussions of his spiritual beliefs.
British law protects the identities of victims of alleged sexual violence, prohibiting their media identification for life.
