Russell Brand told police that his "very promiscuous" celebrity lifestyle, involving "countless" sexual encounters, had been "unfavourably reframed" into allegations of rape and sexual assault, a court heard.
Brand, 51, faces three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault, all of which he denies. He was arrested in 2023 following a broadcast of a Dispatches documentary that outlined allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
In police interviews conducted between November 2023 and July 2025, Brand asserted that he had "never engaged in any non-consensual sexual activity." He described his past as a "way of life" that involved kissing "hundreds" of fans, engaging in consensual sex in various locations, and sometimes leaving partners shortly after intimacy.
"The magnitude of the promiscuity, deceptively rendered in recent media attacks, accompanied by advertisements for complainants, have caused consensual encounters to be unfavourably reframed decades later," Brand told detectives, according to court documents.
He suggested that his accusers had "invented" their claims and stated that he could not remember all of them. Brand also claimed that the media and police had "publicly invited additional allegations to be made, which resulted in further encounters being invented or reimagined."
During one police interview, Brand addressed an allegation of oral rape during a party. He stated, "I have had consensual sex in toilet cubicles during parties. I have never forced anyone into a toilet and I have never forced my penis into anyone's mouth."
The court also heard that a former Channel 4 worker accused Brand of sexually assaulting her during filming in 2009, describing him as a "nightmare to work with."
On Tuesday, the judge instructed jurors to acquit Brand on one charge of indecent assault related to an alleged incident in 2001. The charge was amended to "attempted indecent assault," to which Brand has pleaded not guilty. The trial is ongoing.
