Russell Brand Told Police He Never Had Non-Consensual Sex
Statements made by the entertainer between 2023 and 2025 were presented in court as he denies multiple sexual offense charges.
Russell Brand stated to police that he never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity, according to statements presented in court. These statements were made between 2023 and 2025 as part of investigations into allegations against him.
Brand has denied three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one charge of attempted indecent assault. He has described the allegations as stemming from a "defamatory and fictitious documentary" that contained "false and anonymised" interviews. Brand further stated that "subsequently both the media and the police publicly invited additional allegations to be made, which has resulted in further encounters to be invented or reimagined."
During proceedings on Tuesday, the jury was asked to formally find Brand not guilty of a charge of indecent assault. This charge related to an alleged incident in 2001 where a woman claimed Brand grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her into a toilet while she worked at MTV. The judge, Mr Justice Bennathan, indicated there was "insufficient evidence to support the charge of indecent assault."
An amended indictment was then presented to the jury, charging Brand with attempted indecent assault, to which he has pleaded not guilty. The prosecution is expected to conclude its case on Wednesday morning, after which the defense is anticipated to begin presenting its arguments.
