Russell Brand Accuser Suffered 'A Lot of Pain' After Alleged Rape, Friend Testifies
A witness told a court that the woman claimed she was unable to sit down due to pain following the alleged assault by the comedian.
A woman who has accused comedian Russell Brand of rape testified that she was left in significant pain following the alleged assault, to the point where she "couldn't sit down," a friend testified in court this week.
The witness, who testified remotely, stated that the alleged victim recounted the incident, which reportedly occurred in 2009. According to the BBC, the friend said her companion described Brand as being "quite aggressive" and that he "forcibly put it in my [butt]," causing her extreme pain.
The alleged victim told her friend that she had repeatedly told Brand "no" during the encounter. She was reportedly "just crying" and "really upset" when she recounted the incident shortly after it happened.
Another friend, testifying in person, corroborated the account, stating the woman also told her that she had repeatedly asked Brand to stop. This witness further alleged that Brand made derogatory remarks to the woman, telling her she had "been dirty" and needed to "clean up her mess." Brand was described as "quite cold and keen to get her gone" afterward.
The second witness advised the woman to seek medical attention due to reported anal tears and discomfort, and to inform her parents and the police. However, the alleged victim reportedly felt that her claims would not be believed and struggled to process the event, according to the testimony.
The woman's former boyfriend also testified that she became "very upset" when discussing the alleged encounter, which she described as rape. During cross-examination, Brand's attorney questioned a previous statement made by the witness, in which he had said the woman had "come round" to the idea of anal sex. The witness clarified that she meant the woman had "surrendered to the idea," adding, "If I was being attacked, you either fight back or surrendered, it doesn’t negate the attack."
The accuser's mother submitted a statement to the court, expressing her daughter's worry about HIV following the alleged attack and noting that her daughter had previously "always admired" Brand. The woman's father also recalled his daughter telling him she had repeatedly asked Brand to stop during the encounter.
Brand is facing seven charges, including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault, stemming from alleged incidents involving six women between 1999 and 2009. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. In a video posted to Instagram after charges were announced in 2025, Brand denied the allegations, stating, "I've never engaged in nonconsensual activity."
