Russell Brand Accused of Being 'Sexual Predator' in London Court
Prosecutors detail allegations of rape and sexual assault against the comedian spanning a decade, which he denies.
Comedian and actor Russell Brand is a ruthless "sexual predator" who raped victims while pursuing a goal of bedding 5,000 women, a London court heard Wednesday.
Brand, 51, faces seven charges, including three counts of rape, three sexual assaults, and one indecent assault, allegedly committed against six women between 1999 and 2009. He denies all charges.
During the opening of the trial at Southwark Crown Court, prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC described Brand as a "calculated and manipulative" rapist who spent a decade assaulting women, treating them as a "means to an end" to satisfy his "insatiable desire."
The court heard that Brand, who has since become a Hollywood movie star, allegedly "lured" victims with his comedy antics and charm, only to "pounce like an animal." He is described as having a "voracious" sexual appetite and was allegedly obsessed with sex, bragging to friends about being a "womaniser" and aiming to "bed 5,000 women in his lifetime."
Karmy-Jones stated that Brand was not deterred by initial refusals and would tell women not to be a "spoilsport" if they resisted his advances. She characterized him as "demanding, entitled, a flirt with a huge sexual appetite, childlike in his expectation that his every desire should be met."
One of the alleged victims testified that Brand sexually assaulted her in 1999 after a performance in Bournemouth. She recounted being lured to a hotel room where he allegedly undressed, performed "silly walks," and then raped her. She described him as groping her, grabbing her breasts, and attempting to kiss her, with his actions described as "horrible, lizard-like."
Following this alleged assault, Brand reportedly told a friend, "I think I may have gone a bit too far." Another alleged incident involved Brand attempting to drag an MTV worker into a toilet cubicle two years later. In 2004, he is accused of orally raping a woman at a bar and later that year, allegedly grabbed a woman's breasts and buttocks in a "rough, fast and frenzied" assault at a radio station.
A fifth alleged victim met Brand backstage after a 2009 gig. She claims he invited her to his home the following day, where he allegedly anally raped her and ordered her to "clean up the mess you have made." She later received a text apology after telling Brand he treated her "like an animal."
The final alleged victim, a Channel 4 worker, claims she was sexually assaulted in 2009 after being asked to give Brand a massage.
Friends of Brand, including Mark Pinheiro and Andrew Dobson, testified that he "boasted" of wanting to sleep with 5,000 women and shared tips for "pulling girls." Dobson stated, "Women and sex were a goal and an obsession."
The six alleged victims came forward in 2025 after claims of sexual misconduct were reported in the media. During police interviews, Brand maintained that all his sexual contact was consensual and claimed his accusers had "reimagined" the encounters.
Brand appeared in court in a black suit, clutching a silver cross, and showed no emotion as the charges were read. The trial is ongoing.
