A rush hour commute on Los Angeles's 405 Freeway was thrown into disarray Thursday morning after a collision caused two cars to flip.
The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes near Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mixed with the morning commute, the overturned vehicles blocked lanes, prompting a massive traffic backup across the Westside of the city. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert around 8 a.m., indicating closures that affected lanes 4, 5, and 6. This alert was extended by an additional 30 minutes as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
Authorities reported that at least one person involved in the crash declined medical transport. It was not immediately clear if any serious injuries were sustained.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the lanes were eventually reopened after the wreckage was cleared.
