Runner Dies After Collapsing During Milwaukee Half-Marathon; Fellow Participant Renders Aid

A fellow competitor attempted to provide aid to John Meise, 36, a father of four, after he collapsed during the Milwaukee Lakefront Half-Marathon on Sunday morning. Meise collapsed less than 600 feet from the finish line.

The unnamed runner "immediately stepped in to help" Meise, according to his family, who have established a fundraiser to support his family. Despite the efforts of the fellow runner and medical staff, Meise could not be revived.

Meise was transported to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His family stated that he had no known medical history. The cause of Meise's death has not yet been revealed.
