Rumer Willis has relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, two months after a court awarded her primary physical custody of her three-year-old daughter, Louetta, following a dispute with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.
Willis, 37, announced the move on Instagram, sharing clips of the process and describing the decision as a "leap of faith" and an "emotional" week. The singer-actress had been living in Idaho since January 2025, having previously left Los Angeles.
The custody ruling in June granted Willis primary physical custody of Louetta, with both parents sharing joint legal custody. The court also established a visitation schedule for Thomas, which includes supervised visits every other weekend, with a plan for eventual unsupervised overnight stays. Both parents were directed to engage in co-parenting counseling and utilize a co-parenting app for communication.
Legal documents obtained by media outlets revealed significant discord between Willis and Thomas. Willis accused Thomas of exhibiting a "persistent pattern" of "insane emotional abuse" since their separation, allegations he has denied. Court filings also indicated Thomas's claims of tension between Willis and her mother, Demi Moore, with Thomas alleging Moore threatened to "destroy" him and interfered with his parenting.
Thomas contested the relocation of Louetta out of California to Idaho, stating he never agreed to the move. He further alleged that Willis had expressed a desire to move out of state to distance herself from her mother's influence.
Willis's move to Nashville aligns with her aspirations in music. Nashville is recognized as a major hub for the music industry, and Willis has a background in singing and performance, having released singles and contributed to soundtracks for television series.
