Rugby Star Joe Westerman Remarries Weeks After Ex-Wife's Wedding

England international rugby league player Joe Westerman has remarried weeks after his ex-wife, Lauren, married her new partner, Karl Holmes. Westerman's wedding to estate agent Alison Hopkinson took place on Monday in Scarborough.

The ceremony followed a scandal earlier this year when footage of Westerman, 36, engaging in a sex act with a woman behind a Greggs bakery went viral. The woman involved was identified by Lauren Westerman as a friend's wife. The incident led to Westerman being dropped by his Super League club, Castleford Tigers, and initiated divorce proceedings with Lauren.

Westerman shared photos of his wedding on Instagram, captioning them, "A day we will never forget. Thank you to everyone who made it so special. Here's to our forever. The Westermans." He wore a beige suit, while Hopkinson chose an A-line dress.

Just weeks prior, Lauren Westerman married HGV mechanic Karl Holmes. She shared on Facebook that she felt "so lucky" to marry her best friend. A family friend told the Daily Mail that Lauren was "mortified" by Westerman's actions, which were humiliating given her private nature and the impact on their three children, particularly their eldest daughter who was in senior school at the time.

Lauren Westerman ended her nine-year marriage to Joe Westerman after the scandal. She stated she would "never" take back her husband and emphasized the importance of teaching her children that such behavior is unacceptable and that everyone has self-worth. She expressed relief that the incident became public, as she found the thought of kissing him after the revelations "sick."

Westerman had apologized for his actions, attributing them to "decision-making around alcohol" and stating he could not remember the incident. He was fined by his club and required to perform community service.

Lauren and Karl Holmes publicly revealed their relationship in August 2023, six months after Westerman's public indiscretion. Holmes, who has also experienced difficult times, is reportedly helping Lauren learn to trust again. He has expressed deep affection for Lauren on social media, calling her "truly one in a million."
