Rudy Giuliani has announced his intention to sue Tucker Carlson, alleging defamation over comments made during Carlson's interview with Hunter Biden concerning the origins of the "laptop from hell." Giuliani stated that Carlson implied during the interview that he and President Trump were agents for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"He can go to hell!," Giuliani told Newsmax in an interview. "I wasn’t an agent for anybody but myself and the United States of America and the man I was representing. That’s been proven 40 times over. I’m gonna sue him! I don’t know what has happened to Tucker Carlson, but if he’s not working for somebody else, he’s doing a good imitation of it."
Giuliani's remarks appear to reference comments made by Carlson during a discussion with Hunter Biden about his laptop, which Biden has described as part of a Russian disinformation campaign. Carlson stated during the August interview that he was offered the hard drive by Israelis, saying, "That came from the Israelis. I’m just telling you that they came to me with that."
It remains unclear how Giuliani connects these remarks to his lawsuit. However, shortly before Carlson's statement, Hunter Biden was discussing Giuliani's actions during the 2020 presidential campaign. Giuliani, then Trump's personal lawyer, visited a Delaware police station to share files from Biden's laptop, telling officials the hard drive contained evidence of crimes.
During his interview with Carlson, Hunter Biden claimed Giuliani falsely told police that the laptop contained images of minor children. Biden asserted this was "an absolute, complete, and utter effing lie" and that the laptop "had no evidence of anything other than I was a drug user."
Giuliani also stated that Hunter Biden personally defamed him during the interview, though he did not mention suing Biden himself. "He personally defamed me, Hunter Biden did. And so did Tucker," Giuliani said.
Giuliani further elaborated on his perception of the interview, saying, "Now he’s saying, Hunter is, that Bibi Netanyahu set it up and at the conclusion of his saying that — Hunter, either he’s the lapdog or Tucker is — Tucker said, “I agree.” In other words, he agrees that I was and Trump was an agent for Bibi."
Hunter Biden previously sued Giuliani in September 2023 over the laptop. Giuliani had shared a copy of the laptop with The Post, which first reported on its contents in 2020. Biden's lawsuit alleged that Giuliani violated federal and state computer privacy and fraud laws. That case was dismissed in June 2024 after both parties agreed to a mutual dismissal without prejudice.
