Ruby Rose Recounts Childhood Trauma of Being Accused of Murder at 15
The actress details the harrowing experience of being present at a fatal accident and the subsequent accusations she faced.
Ruby Rose has shared a deeply personal and traumatic experience from her teenage years, recounting how she was accused of murder at the age of 15.
Speaking on the "Off the Vine" podcast with Kaitlyn Bristowe, the Australian actress described discovering a four-year-old boy gravely injured at a social gathering. Rose, who was 15 at the time, had stepped outside for her first cigarette when she noticed what she initially mistook for a doll hanging from a playground slide.
"My friend and I locked eyes and we started walking towards it," Rose recalled. "As we got close enough, we could tell this was a real human."
She described the scene as horrific, with the child bleeding from his ear, nose, and mouth. Rose immediately picked up the boy and carried him inside to get help from the adults present. She believed she had saved him when an ambulance arrived and he was still breathing, but he was later placed on life support at a hospital.
"Unfortunately he was brain dead for so long that it just wasn't... I just sent love to the family," Rose said, trailing off as she described the outcome. The boy did not survive.
The following day, police arrived at Rose's high school to question her, leading to intense bullying and accusations from her peers. "People were like, 'baby killer!' I was breaking down," she stated.
The situation was eventually resolved when the child's older brother, who had witnessed the event, recovered memories of the incident. He was able to inform the police that the death had been a tragic accident, not a homicide. "He remembered and I was cleared, but (the child's mother) still didn't want me at the funeral," Rose added, noting the lasting impact of the suspicion despite being exonerated.
In the same interview, Rose also discussed her departure from Hollywood following a spinal injury sustained on the set of the CW series "Batwoman," where she starred as the title character from 2019 to 2020. After achieving international fame with roles in "Orange Is the New Black" and films like "John Wick: Chapter 2" and "The Meg," Rose has since opted for a quieter life, returning to rural Victoria, Australia.
