Ruby Rose Recounts Bizarre Encounter With Kelly Clarkson Amid Bird Dispute
The actress drew parallels between her past interaction with the singer and Clarkson's recent public feud over a $21,000 mechanical bird.
Actress Ruby Rose has shared an unusual past interaction with singer Kelly Clarkson, drawing a connection to Clarkson's recent public dispute with a Brooklyn boutique over a costly mechanical bird.
Rose recounted an interview with Clarkson for MTV Australia, during which she felt a strong connection with the singer. "I know what it's like to be Molly the bird," Rose wrote on Threads, referring to the bird at the center of the dispute. "Many moons ago I interviewed Kelly for MTV Australia. I was so smitten by how down to earth and funny she was."
However, the encounter took a peculiar turn as Clarkson was leaving. Rose recalled Clarkson saying, "she was adorable, I just want to put her in my pocket and take her with me," referring to Rose. This comment prompted Rose to ask her producer if she could "find a way to become really tiny so that I could live in Kelly's pocket." Rose stated that for years, she wondered about that potential alternative life.
Rose's recollection comes amid Clarkson's highly publicized disagreement with the Brooklyn store, Art of Play. The singer claimed she was treated dismissively by staff, reminiscent of a scene from the film "Pretty Woman," after inquiring about purchasing a mechanical singing bird named Molly. Clarkson stated she was told the item was not for sale and was offered something comparable.
The boutique, in turn, disputed Clarkson's account, asserting that Molly is a non-transferable store mascot and not for sale. They explained that an identical automaton was available from its creator for $15,000, and they had offered Clarkson a different, less expensive singing bird.
Clarkson later doubled down on her social media, claiming the store was lying and that a price tag of $15,000 was visible on the bird. The dispute escalated, with social media users investigating the store's claims and Clarkson's allegations. The situation reportedly led to police being called to the boutique due to a disorderly person, and staff temporarily locking themselves inside.
Rose, who has appeared on Clarkson's talk show and has been friendly within Hollywood circles, expressed empathy for "Molly the bird" in light of the ongoing situation.
