Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Thursday that additional far-left groups are slated for designation as terrorist organizations. Rubio pointed to recent events, including the assassinations of Charlie Kirk and UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, as well as attempts on the life of President Trump, as examples of what he described as a "distinctive and unique evil" fueled by political extremism.

"Far-left political terrorism is not a recent-day modern novelty," Rubio stated. "It is not a fiction manufactured by conservative politicians. For most of the modern era, it was in fact the dominant form of political violence."

In November, the State Department designated four violent far-left extremist groups as foreign terrorist organizations. Rubio indicated that further designations are imminent.
